How to get to Seychelles
Well, it's not so easy to fly to Seychelles from Asia. We flew from Hong Kong and it took us around 18 hours to get to Mahe International airport. The cheapest option from Hong Kong was to fly via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The overnight flight time till Addis Ababa is 11 hours, then from Addis Ababa we had our flight to Seychelles, which was 4 hours. Connection time between flights was about 3 hours and a half. Actually, it is not so hard as it sounds. Besides flying through Ethiopia you can choose flying via Dubai or Abu Dabi.
The price for a returned flight was less than 1000 USD, it cost us 900 USD.
Visiting the Seychelles republic is visa free for all countries. But you should prove your stay by a return ticket, hotel reservation and sufficient funds for the duration of the stay.
Seychelles is a luxury holiday destination with numerous five-star world class resorts, so don't expect to find here any hostels or cheap guest houses. The prices start from 60 EUR for a standard room in an ordinary guest house. The best option for a kind of a budget stay is to rent a self-catering apartment. Average price for this type of accommodation is 80-100 EUR. And for this price you will get the whole villa or house with a private kitchen, bathroom, barbecue zone and even a pool. It's really value for money especially for those travelling with family as many self-catering apartments have two bedrooms.
The price for 4-star, 5-star hotels is much more expensive than even 300 EUR.
Must visit islands while in Seychelles
There are three most popular islands in Seychelles and visiting them is a must if you there:
- La Digue
There are many other islands and you can definitely visit them too, but it's optional. Visiting of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue is more than enough for getting the main idea of Seychelles.
The best way to explore the Seychelles islands is by car. Driving in Seychelles is an unforgettable experience, you will be impressed by the views of the Indian ocean and lush greenery.
Why driving your own car is the best way to explore Seychelles:
- stunning views
- saving money
- good road conditions
- good traffic almost everywhere
The rental price for an economy car is 35-38 EUR per day. For instance, a taxi ride from the International Airport to your hotel will cost you the same price or even more, but just for one ride. That's the main advantage of renting your own car - saving your money. Another reason is numerous beautiful places to explore, driving your own car allows you to see so many sights and save your time. Of course you can choose public transport and try to explore the islands by bus, but in this case you won't see much and you will be exhausted by waiting for the bus under the sun and by riding in uncomfortable non-conditioned buses. Motorbikes are also not an option in Seychelles as there are simply almost no motorbikes for rent. It's not Asia.
One of the main activities in Seychelles is island hopping. The most popular islands are Mahe, the biggest island where the capital, Victoria, is situated, Praslin, the second largest island after Mahe, and La Digue, the smallest island which is just 20 minutes boat ride from Praslin. There are many other smaller islands but these three is enough for first visit. As all of these tropical islands are so beautiful with so many gorgeous beach that one day is not enough to see even the smallest part of all paradise.
We spent four days on Mahe island, three days in Praslin, and one day in La Diaue.
Highlights of the islands
How to get there
There are two main ways to move from one island to another - by ferry or by air. The point is that the ticket price by sea or by air will be almost the same.
The leading ferry operators in the Seychelles are Cat Cocos and Inter island Ferry. They provide daily service between the paradise islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. The average price is 60 EUR one way.
If you choose Air Seychelles the price from Mahe to Praslin will be almost the same, maybe ten EUR more. But keep in mind that all tickets should be booked in advance, at least 2-3 days before your trip. We recommend you to explore Mahe first, then go to Praslin by air, and from Praslin go to La Digue be ferry. La Digue is just 15 minutes ride by a speed catamaran so there is no sense to go by plane.
So the main question - how many days you need to explore each island? Well, it depends on how many days in total you spend in Seychelles. In our case, we had just eight days for Seychelles, so we spend 4 days in Mahe, three days in Praslin and one day in La Digue. But we liked Praslin nature so much that we regret we didn't stay there longer. Anyway, you need at least 2-3 days for Mahe and Praslin, and 1-2 days for La Dique.

- Vcoa nature trail - a trail of abot one hour with great granite boulders.
Anse Intendanse - the best beach of the island. The beach itself is a real piece of paradise with snow-white sand and incredible turquoise blue water. But be aware of big waves.
The beach where the famous Del place restaurant is located. The scenery there is absolutely breathtaking. You can walk on foot to the tiny island where the Russian reality show takes place. From that smal island with powdery white sand and crystal clear blue waters of all hues, the view is really stunning. Lush green on the background and the beauty of the turqueise ocean water make you feel you are in paradise.
Anse Takamaka - picturesque beach with a small restaurant on it. Good for swimming as there are no big waves.
